Meet the Team

As the CEO and founder of Her-Place Charitable Trust (formerly Motherwell Cheshire) I have dedicated my career to advocating for the mental health and wellbeing of women and girls. With a background in counselling, I bring both personal and professional experience to my work, particularly in supporting women with complex mental health needs, including those who have experienced abuse or trauma. My passion is to address the gaps in mental health services and ensure women’s voices are heard and valued in the system.

Her-Place Charitable Trust, a charity run by women for women, focuses on delivering community-based support to vulnerable women and girls across Cheshire. Our projects are designed to empower women by providing access to vital resources and networks of care. The charity is committed to enhancing wellbeing services and creating a supportive environment for women and girls at all stages of their lives.

Beyond my role at Her-Place I am an author of the book “Mum’s the Word: The Mothering Journey”, which explores the challenges and triumphs of motherhood. I also chair two charitable initiatives: my local scout group and the A Statue for Ada Campaign, which commemorates the pioneering work of Ada Nield Chew. Additionally, I serve on the Crewe Town Board, contributing to efforts that strengthen our local community.

Balancing my professional responsibilities with my personal life as a mother of three children, I have found therapeutic support invaluable as I navigate the challenges of peri-menopause and an early empty nest. My commitment to self-care extends to staying physically active through open water swimming, cycling and walking.

Through my “Mum’s the Word” YouTube channel, I continue to engage with a wide audience, sharing personal stories of Motherhood.

Hi I’m Debb, a mum of three beautiful children, all grown up, and a nana to George and Ivy, but that does not mean I’m not wanted! In my experience it’s a job for life! I’ve been a mum for over 35 years and experienced all the emotions, highs and lows, of being a mum! Looking forward to the next chapter!

I’ve worked as a teacher in some shape or form all my working life. I also worked as a Nanny to 3 young boys. I used to work with young women in supported accommodation, supporting them back into education, work, volunteering and training, so I’m very aware of the ‘Mothering Journey’.

I work mainly coordinating the Well-being Days, Workshops and courses, and now managing the referrals that come in but love to be front of house, interacting with our mums and families whenever I can.

Hi my name is Laurel, I am one of the Counsellors here at Her-Place. I have a passion for young women and women helping them in finding their voice. When I am not counselling I can be found spending time with my family on adventures, I also love to travel and explore new places.

My counselling journey started when I sought my own support, through this I realised that I would like a career that allows me to support others. I have since completed my degree in Person-Centred Counselling through the University of Derby.

I’m Georgie and I am the Inspire Co-ordinator for Her-Place Charitable Trust.

My main passion is creativity, and I love encouraging others to use their own creativity to express themselves and improve wellbeing.  I have my own experience with some of the issues that impact some of the young people in our community, including living with a complex mental health disorder, and being a cared for child and care leaver.

I hope to use my life experience to encourage young women and others in the community to build confidence to speak up about the issues that they face, as well as using their voice to create positive social change.
